Blackbox electronic crash data is the new norm

“Oh _HIT” is what everyone yells or quietly thinks when involved in a vehicle crash.

Then “What Now” thinking focuses on if everybody is ok.

Once that is determined, cell phones report the bad news to family and friends.

Soon, the police show-up (maybe?), followed by first responders like fire, EMS or EMT.

Finally, the tow-truck on call backs up to the wreck.

There are 20,000 tow-a-ways in America every day.

The truck driver loads the crashed/crushed vehicle and drives to the impound lot or auto-body facility.

The tow-truck drops-off the vehicle and gets back on the rotation list for the next crash.

Now, it’s just a matter of time before an insurance adjuster inspection.

Up to this point nobody informs the vehicle owner of any property rights or control of access to the vehicle.

From a cybersecurity point of view experts agree the vehicle is unsecure and ripe for an attack.

There is a ‘window of opportunity’ when modern vehicles with electronic data are easily tampered with.

This is from the time of the crash until the vehicle’s crash data has been downloaded by an entity recognized…
