An essential security upgrade for your car or light truck

The high point of vehicle ownership is at the time of sale.

The low point is following a crash.

There are 20,000 tow-a-ways in America every day.

However crashes are not just “he said — she said” anymore regards auto-fault liability .

Now, 91% of new vehicles include automotive ‘black box’ event data recorders (EDRs) to create and store crash data.

Most motorist’s are still unaware of EDRs, although those that know about them generally support enhancing vehicle and highway safety but oppose using this intrusive technology against them in civil and criminal court cases.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the National Motorists Association (NMA) advocate for fair use of crash data.

Congress passed the Driver’s Privacy Act of 2015 which cites that the vehicle owner or lessee “owns” the data and 17 states have additional EDR privacy statutes.

However, we still need adequate consumer protection, especially following a crash.
